Took a chance on a $500 junkyard transmission, 8k miles later no regrets

I was super skeptical about pulling a trans from Pick-n-Pull in Phoenix for my old Civic. Figured it was just someone else's problem waiting to happen, especially since the yard only gives you 30 days for warranty. But my original trans was grinding 3rd gear bad and every local shop wanted $900+ for a used one with unknown history. Pulled the one from a 2005 coupe with 132k on the odometer, did the swap over a weekend, and it's been solid through two desert summers. The trick was checking the fluid color and asking the yard if the car was a theft recovery or running when it came in. Has anyone else had good luck with junkyard drivetrains, or am I just lucky so far?
