Saw a guy at the Pick n Pull in Tulsa pull a $40 alternator off a wrecked Civic and test it with a multimeter right in the parking lot

He told me he only buys alternators and starters this way because the yards let you return them for store credit if they test bad, so there is zero risk. Sure enough his tested at 14.2 volts and he walked out way cheaper than the $110 the parts store wanted. Has anyone else had luck pulling electrical parts from the yard or is it too much of a gamble for you?
