Guy at the parts counter in Dayton told me he stopped buying $800 beaters because of one thing
I was picking up a $22 alternator for my 2003 Corolla last week and the guy behind the counter mentioned he quit buying sub-$800 cars after his last three all had rusted out subframe mounts. He said he now refuses anything that won't pass a $60 pre-purchase inspection at his buddy's shop, even if the seller swears it runs great. I watched him turn down a clean looking Civic that same afternoon because the owner wouldn't let him jack it up in the lot. Made me rethink the $500 Neon I was about to grab off Marketplace. How do you all check subframes without a lift in a random parking lot?
