Guy at the junkyard told me I was stupid for rebuilding a flooded motor, he had a point
Last spring I was pulling a 2.4 out of a rolled-over Impala at the LKQ in Omaha. Some older fella in coveralls walks up, sees me with a breaker bar and says "you aren't actually gonna rebuild that thing are you?" I told him it only had 80k on it and the flood damage was just hydrolock. He laughed and said "son, salt water gets in every gasket, every bearing, every sensor. You'll spend 600 bucks and three weekends just to have it knock by October." I did it anyway. Took me 4 weekends, $740 in parts, and it still overheats on hills. He was right. Any of you guys actually had luck with flood cars under $500, or is that always a trap?
