Found a $500 Civic with a bad thermostat in a Denver salvage lot
Stopped by U-Pull-It off I-70 last Tuesday just to grab a window motor for my daily. Walked past this faded 2000 Civic with 210k miles that had a note taped to the glass saying 'ran hot, parked it'. Checked the radiator, coolant was fine, fan spun free, so I pulled the thermostat housing and sure enough the spring was stuck shut. Paid $350 at the counter, swapped the part for $18, and it fired right up. Kept it as a spare beater and already got an offer for $1,200, but I might just drive it for a while. Anyone else ever lucked into a cheap fix hiding in plain sight at a junkyard?
