Why did nobody tell me I was cleaning my sensor with the blower bulb still attached to the base
Spent 20 minutes chasing dust spots on a client's 6D last Tuesday and finally realized I was sucking air back onto the sensor every squeeze. Anybody else ever catch themselves doing something this dumb on a routine clean?
Man, hate to say it but that's not actually what's happening and I don't want you chasing a ghost next time. A rocket blower pulls air in from the back hole when you let go of the bulb, not through the nozzle, so the air hitting your sensor is still clean on the squeeze. The back hole usually has a one way valve or sponge for exactly that reason. What probably got you is the blower itself kicking up dust that was already sitting inside the mirror box or on the shutter blades, and that dust lands right back on the sensor. I've done hundreds of cleans and the bulb was never the problem, it was me not locking the mirror up and blowing around the chamber first. Try a few dry squeezes away from the camera before you go in, and hit the walls of the box before the sensor itself.
