The one thing I see people mess up with old film camera light seals

I've fixed about twenty cameras this year where someone tried to replace light seals with basic craft foam. It might look okay for a week, but that stuff breaks down fast and leaves sticky bits everywhere. I had a Canon AE-1 come in last month where the old foam had turned to goo and got on the mirror. The owner said they used a sheet from a hobby store six months ago. Why does it matter? That goo can jam the mirror mechanism and ruin the shutter curtains. I only use closed-cell foam strips made for cameras now. Has anyone else found a good supplier for the proper adhesive-backed strips?

Heard that's a common issue with older F3s.
