Spent 3 hours fighting a stuck shutter on a Canon AE-1 before realizing the mirror bumper foam was just gooey
It took me way too long to figure out that old foam turns into sticky tar that grabs the mirror mechanism, has anyone else had a simple clean turn into a full afternoon project?

Three hours? Rookie numbers, I spent an entire Saturday scraping that goo off with a toothpick once.

Actually, those little scouring sticks you can get at hardware stores work way better for that goo than a toothpick. I used one from a brand called Goo Gone and it took me maybe 45 minutes total for a whole console. The toothpick method sounds like it would wear your hand out way faster, idk. Maybe it's just me but I feel like the scraping gets a lot easier if you heat the goo up a bit first with a hair dryer on low.
