Pro tip: my uncle's old advice about using a toothbrush on shutter blades saved a repair job

He told me years ago to use a soft toothbrush and lighter fluid to clean sticky blades on an old Minolta... I thought it sounded crazy. Tried it last week on an SRT-101 that came in, and it worked perfectly, no residue left behind. Anyone have other weird but effective cleaning tricks for vintage shutters?

Lighter fluid on a toothbrush sounded like a terrible idea at first, I was sure it would leave a mess. But hearing it worked on an SRT-101 is wild, that's a solid camera. I guess the old school tricks are the best sometimes. I'll have to remember that one for the next sticky shutter I find.

That lighter fluid trick actually works. Had a similar issue with an old Nikon and used a q-tip with rubbing alcohol instead.
