My shutter count obsession hid a $45 mirror box problem
I spent three evenings chasing a clicking noise on a Canon EOS 5D, convinced the shutter was about to die. Turns out the mirror box dampening foam had turned to sticky goo, which pulled the mirror mechanism out of timing. A local shop in Portland fixed it for $45, but I felt dumb for checking the actuation counter first. Has anyone else had foam rot mess with their diagnosis flow?

Man, that's just like when your check engine light comes on and you swear it's the transmission but it's really a loose gas cap. We love to jump to the scary answer first when it's usually some small dumb thing.
