Just realized my lens cleaning routine was leaving micro-scratches
Had a chat with a retired Nikon tech at a swap meet in Portland who showed me under his loupe how my microfiber cloth was actually grinding in dust particles, and he uses a rocket blower first every time now I feel like an idiot.

My old neighbor was a photographer for National Geographic back in the 70s, and he told me the same thing about camera lenses. He said he never touched the glass with anything dry, always used a drop of lens cleaner on a fresh piece of lens tissue and let it evaporate off. I still remember him showing me his old Leica lens that looked like new after forty years of that method.
