I finally tried ultrasonic cleaning on old shutters and it felt like cheating

I always figured dunking a shutter assembly in a machine was lazy work, stuck with my brushes and canned air for years. Last month a beat-up 1970s SLR with sticky blades came in, and after 3 tries with traditional methods I gave the $80 ultrasonic tank a shot. That thing stripped years of gunk off in 5 minutes and the curtain timing came back spot on, no partial disassembly needed. I still hand clean the mounts and screws first, but now I'm wondering how many other so-called shortcuts are actually worth adopting. Anyone else switch over and never look back, or did you have a bad batch that ruined your trust in it?

Honestly that $80 tank changed my life too, I was skeptical after years of manual work but now I use it on every sticky mechanism that comes through. Ngl the only time it bit me was when I forgot to dry parts fully before re-greasing, so now I hit everything with a quick heat gun blast first.
