Found a 1970s shutter tester with mercury in it

Was cleaning out a retired repairman's shop last month and found this old shutter tester from the 70s. Opened it up to check the contacts and there's a glass tube of mercury inside, never seen that in a unit before. Anyone know if this is common in vintage test gear or should I be careful handling it?
