Unpopular take: chasing 5 new clients beats trying to keep the 20 you have
Everyone in my Minneapolis small biz group keeps saying retention is king, but after I lost my two biggest accounts in Q1 and replaced them in 6 weeks with cold outreach, I stopped believing that. Anyone else find that new leads are easier to land than squeezing more money out of people who already capped out on what they'll pay you?
Ha, but you didn't really replace them though, you just swapped them out. Keeping a client you already have costs way less than landing a new one, so yeah cold outreach worked this time but you got lucky with the timing. Losing your two biggest accounts in one quarter is a red flag, not proof that retention doesn't matter.
