Just lost a big client because our email automation broke
Our drip campaign went haywire last Tuesday and sent 4 welcome sequences to a client who'd been with us for 2 years. They thought we had no clue who they were and pulled their $5k monthly retainer. I spent 3 hours digging through HubSpot and found a bad integration with our CRM update from the week before. Anyone else have automation tools cause more problems than they solve?

$5k monthly retainer, man that stings. I see this kind of thing happening more and more where we build these complex systems to automate our work but forget they need constant babysitting. It's like people who buy a fancy robot vacuum and then spend all their time cleaning the vacuum instead of the floor. We traded one problem for a different one.

Read a piece in Wired last month about automation creep. Basically, we layer these tools on top of each other until nobody remembers what's actually talking to what. Saw the exact same thing happen to a buddy's shop - Zapier update broke their whole lead routing and they lost 2 weeks of inbound. @evangarcia hit it with the robot vacuum thing, that's exactly right. We spend more time fixing the system than doing actual work. Sometimes the old way with a spreadsheet and manual checks works better.
