My friend swore by the 'no-rules' bullet journal method and it totally backfired
She told me to just scribble anything anywhere and call it a brain dump, but after a week I couldn't find a single grocery list or appointment among the chaos. Honestly felt like I was just making a mess on purpose, anyone else tried the freeform style and regretted it?

Did you try giving it more than a week? Brain dumping takes some time to figure out your own shorthand and patterns. I keep a daily page where I just write everything as it comes, but I put a date at the top and use a simple symbol next to appointments so I can scan for them later. It took me about three weeks before the system started clicking and I could actually find things.

Stick to a basic weekly layout with a small habit tracker at the start, that way you keep the flexibility but still have some structure to find stuff. I've been there with the total chaos system and it just turns into anxiety in notebook form for me. A couple simple sections for tasks and random thoughts makes the brain dump actually useful instead of just dumping.
