I thought using a ruler for all my spreads was a waste of time.
My friend in Austin swore by it, so I tried it for a month on my weekly logs. My pages look so much cleaner and I actually feel more focused when I'm writing things down. Do you use any tools like that, or do you prefer a more freehand style?

Yeah, "pages look so much cleaner" is the whole point, right? I read this thing about how neat lines can actually trick your brain into being more orderly with your thoughts. Gray_patel has a point about it maybe slowing you down at first, but doesn't that forced pace make you think a bit more about what you're writing? I used to think tools like that were just for looks, but now I see they change how you use the page. It's not about being perfect, it's about giving your ideas a clear path to follow.

Tell you what, I picked up a little metal T-ruler from an art supply store for like 8 bucks and it's been my go-to for the last two years. The trick I found is to use it for the first two columns on a spread, then just eyeball the rest from there. Saved me a ton of time versus measuring every single line out. Your mileage may vary, but for me it was worth slowing down those first few pages to get the hang of it.
