Caught my kid using my bullet journal to track their chores
They drew all over the margins with crayons. Now I'm torn between being annoyed and proud they're getting into it. Any tips on how to handle this without discouraging them?

This happens a lot, kids imitating how we keep track of things but making it their own. Last week, my friend's daughter turned a shopping list into a colorful map of the grocery store. They're just trying to join in on what they see as important adult behavior. For the journal, I'd say let them keep the one they started but buy a separate one for yourself. It teaches them responsibility without squashing their interest.

Notice how kids often blend creativity with routine tasks, making them more engaging. For instance, my neighbor's son redesigned his homework schedule as a video game level, where completing assignments unlocked new 'areas'. This isn't just imitation, it's a way for them to process and own the process. We adults could learn from this by adding more play into our own planning. When was the last time you made a to-do list that actually looked fun to tackle?

Kids reinvent our boring stuff. See my cousin's son rewrite his homework as a comic strip last month. He turned algebra into a space adventure with aliens. It clicked for him in a way plain numbers never did. Your idea to get another journal is perfect, it keeps their creativity safe. We often forget that their version might work better for them. Letting them own the process builds real skills.

Well at least they're learning organization, even if their artistic style is... aggressive. My cousin's kid did that and now we can't tell the grocery list from a dinosaur battle.
