Used to buy lunch every day at work, now I bring leftovers

I was dropping like $12 a day at the deli across from my office in Chicago, which adds up to over $200 a month. Then I started throwing extra dinner portions into containers and grabbing them on my way out the door. Anyone else shocked at how fast those $8 sandwiches turn into a car payment?

Started doing the same thing a couple years back. The trick for me was buying those glass meal prep containers with the snap lids, makes the leftovers actually hold up better than throwing them in a random tupperware. Now I rotate through a few cheap recipes like stir fry or pasta that reheat really well, keeps me from getting bored with my lunch. Definitely noticed my wallet not hurting so bad at the end of the month.

My buddy switched to leftovers and saved enough for a weekend trip to Milwaukee.
