Switched from weekly meal kits to bulk rice and beans six months ago

I used to spend $200 a month on those meal kit boxes because I thought they saved me time. Then I started buying 20-pound bags of rice and dried beans from the bulk section at Winco for about $30 total each month. I prep everything on Sunday now, cooking big batches that last the whole week. The switch saved me $170 a month right away and cut my kitchen cleanup time in half. My dinners are simpler but I actually prefer the taste of plain beans and rice with hot sauce. Has anyone else found a cheap staple food that replaced a bigger expense like that?

@reese_garcia same here with rice and beans. Cheap but boring and @reese_garcia said it.

Oh man, this hits home. I switched to a 25-pound bag of oatmeal from Costco for breakfast instead of buying those little instant packets. It's like $12 and lasts me three months. I just add a spoonful of peanut butter and some frozen berries to make it taste way better than the sugary pre-packaged stuff. No more $40 a month on fancy cereals and instant oatmeal, plus it actually keeps me full until lunch.

keeps me full until lunch" - I actually find the opposite with oatmeal. It makes me hungrier like an hour later, no idea why. I tried the whole steel cut oats thing for months and it just didn't work for my body.
