Stupidly spent 3 hours fighting a stuck drain because I refused to buy a $12 auger

Tried dish soap, boiling water, and a wire hanger for way too long before caving and buying an auger that cleared the clog in 45 seconds, what cheap tool has everyone else stubbornly avoided that would have saved them time?

Wait, you fought a toilet for an afternoon with just a plunger? That's a special kind of stubbornness I can totally respect (but also kind of can't believe). and a $3 drain snake would've done the same thing. i spent a whole afternoon fighting a toilet once with a plunger before realizing i needed a closet auger. the moment you buy the right tool you feel like a genius and an idiot at the same time.
