Spent $80 on a library card and it's the best money I ever wasted
I know, a library card is free. But I paid the $80 non-resident fee for the big city library system next to my town. For years I bought every book I wanted, which was maybe $30 a month. Now I get all my books, plus audiobooks and movies, for that one yearly fee. I read three books last month I would have bought for $50 total. The app is easy and I just pick them up. It feels like cheating the system. Has anyone else found a paid service that actually cuts way down on a bigger spending habit?

Honestly, that just sounds like paying for a subscription. My free local library card gets me all that too.

Exactly! Libraries are the original subscription service, but way better because they're free. They have ebooks, audiobooks, movies, and even tools you can borrow. It's crazy not to use them when you already pay for them with your taxes. I get so much out of my library card without another monthly bill.

That's actually a really smart move. I read an article recently about how library systems with big budgets can afford way more digital licenses, so non-resident fees are a steal for what you get. My free card is fine, but the wait times for popular ebooks are months long. Paying $80 to skip that line sounds worth it to me, especially if you're already spending that much on books. Have you found the selection of new releases is better in the paid system?
