Just realized my 'quick' tax withholding fix took six months to sort out
I noticed my paycheck was too small last fall, but my company's payroll system in Phoenix kept rejecting the corrected W-4 form. It took three calls with HR and two escalations to finally get the right amount withheld starting this April. Has anyone else had a simple paperwork error eat up half a year?

I mean, digital red tape is real but paper forms could get lost for months too.

It's that weird modern friction where a digital system is somehow less flexible than paper ever was. I had a nearly identical fight with a benefits portal that wouldn't accept a PDF scan of a marriage certificate, it had to be a photo from a phone. The fix took ten seconds, but getting a human to tell me that rule took four months.

Yeah, that story from @the_mason hits home. I read an article calling this "digital red tape," where the system's own rules become the biggest problem. It's like they build these portals to cut human work, but then make the rules so strict you need a human just to explain them. The worst part is how a simple, one-minute fix gets buried under months of automated replies and dead ends.
