I hit $500 in my 'fun money' jar and it felt weird, not great

I've been putting $20 cash in a jar every Friday for a year (you know, for coffee or a movie) and finally counted it. Seeing that $500 pile made me realize I'd rather have that in my emergency fund, which is still short. Does anyone else feel guilty when they save for something fun instead of something serious?

But why do we always have to justify fun like it's a guilty secret? I see this everywhere, where people treat simple joys as something they need a special excuse to have. It feels like we're all stuck in this mindset where every single dollar has to be for a serious, grown-up purpose. When did just enjoying something become less important than saving for a rainy day that might never come? Maybe the real emergency is forgetting how to be happy with the small things right now.
