Hot take: Those cash stuffing envelopes actually worked for me
I thought the whole cash envelope system was just TikTok hype for decoration... but my grocery spending was out of control, around $600 a month for just me. I took out $300 in cash for food last month and split it into weekly envelopes. Sticking to actual paper money made me think twice before grabbing snacks at the checkout. I ended up with $40 left over at the end of the month, which I never do with a card. Has anyone else found that seeing the cash disappear changes your habits more than swiping plastic?

Does the panic of watching actual cash run out make you a better spender?

Read somewhere that people spend 20% less when using cash over cards.

...and that whole thing about watching cash disappear really hits hard. @cole_walker26 it's the actual physical feeling of handing over those twenties. Last month I went to Target for "just a gallon of milk" with my debit card and walked out with a throw blanket, some fancy soap, and a new candle. Like sixty bucks later. But when I use cash I literally watch the pile shrink and it makes me stop and think, do I really need this third bag of chips? The weird thing is I actually feel more in control with cash even though I know it's the same money either way. My husband thinks I'm crazy but he's the one who buys energy drinks at the gas station every morning with his card and doesn't even notice.
