That Tuesday my rear pads turned to glitter on the highway
Last week I was doing 70 on I-35 near Austin when the pedal went soft, no warning light at all. Pulled off at the next exit and the right rear rotor had that blue heat rainbow and the pad was basically dust, I could see the caliper piston pushing through the backing plate. Turns out the previous owner had put in some cheap ceramic pads with a 20k rating, and my commute is 45 miles of stop and go every day. I replaced all four corners with a quality semi-metallic set that cost $180 total, plus new rotors at $220. Now I'm checking pad thickness every oil change, but has anyone else had a pad just disintegrate without any squeal first?
