That guy who thinks he knows brakes better than the FSM

Had some dude at the parts store last week tell me I didn't need to torque my caliper bracket bolts. Said 'hand tight is fine.' Yeah, no. I showed him the 80 ft-lbs spec in my service manual. He just shrugged. You trust your brakes to guys like that? What's the worst advice you've heard from a random know-it-all?

Man that's scary. I had a guy at a tire shop once tell me I could use any old lug nuts on my truck because "they're all the same" and I just walked out. Stuff like that makes me wonder how many people are driving around with brakes held on by hope and vibes.
