Turned out the caliper piston was seized and I had to borrow a C clamp from a guy in a beat up Ranger, took me 3 hours in the rain. Anyone else ever had a caliper fight back mid job, and did you just replace it or try to free it up?
Man, I felt this in my soul because my own driveway brake jobs always turn into a three hour comedy show where I'm the punchline. Seized pistons are the worst, and half the time freeing them up just buys you a few months before they stick again, so if the boot's torn or the bore looks rough, just toss a new caliper on there. You already saved $400, so spending $70 on a rebuilt one is still a win, even if the Ranger guy deserves a beer.
