Serious question, does anyone else think the 30k mile brake pad rule is just a way to sell more pads?
I pulled the pads off my truck at 68,000 miles last month and there was still 4mm of material left on them. My mechanic friend in Reno told me most shops push the 30k replacement because it keeps the bay busy, not because the pads are done. I checked the FSM spec and it lists 2mm as the actual replacement point, so I had 30k miles of driving left when they told me I needed new ones. The pad wear sensor didn't even trip. Anyone else running their pads way past the shop's recommended number, or am I the only one who feels like this is a scam?
