Rant: bought a $28 caliper piston tool and it's the only reason I finished my rear brakes before dark
So I do my own brakes on my 2012 Civic in the driveway and I'd always just used a C-clamp and a block of wood to push the rear pistons back in. Took forever, knuckles all chewed up, and one time I tore a boot doing it. Last Saturday I ran to the parts store for pads and the guy behind the counter says grab the $28 twist-in kit, your rears spin in, they don't press. I'm standing there thinking great, another tool I'll use twice. Got home, hooked it to my ratchet, and both sides were done in under ten minutes flat. Pads, rotors, and the whole job wrapped up by 4pm on a day I'd blocked out for misery. The kit is cheap stamped metal and the case is junk but it paid for itself the first time. Now I'm wondering what other basic stuff I've been making harder on myself for years. Anyone got a cheap tool like this that made them feel dumb for waiting so long?
