My dad showed me the parking lot break in trick in 2009 and I still do it on every set of pads
Back when I was 17 and doing my first brake job on a rusty 1998 Civic in our driveway in Modesto, my dad told me to pump the pedal 10 times with the car off before I even touched the caliper bolts, and it made the piston push back way easier than the C clamp alone. I tried it again last Saturday on my wife's Outback and the pads slid in on the first try, no swearing, no bleeding knuckles. Does anyone else still do the pedal pump thing or is that just an old guy trick that died with drum brakes?
