I finally chose drilled rotors over blanks for my daily and the noise is killing me
Last month my 2016 Mazda 3 needed new pads and rotors at 78,000 miles. I stood in the parts store for 20 minutes looking at two boxes: basic blank rotors for $52 each or drilled and slotted ones for $89 each. I picked the drilled ones because they looked cooler and the guy behind the counter said they help with heat. Big mistake. After 400 miles of city driving in Phoenix, they make a low hum at every stop and my pads wore down way faster than normal. I put the old blanks back on last weekend and the noise went away instantly. Has anyone actually had drilled rotors stay quiet on a daily driver, or is that just a track thing?
