Took me 8 years to realize I was over-greasing bottom brackets
I've been building wheels and doing full overhauls since 2016, always packed the BB with as much grease as I could fit. Last month a customer's bike came back with that grinding feel after 300 miles, and when I pulled the cups there was grease everywhere but the bearings looked dry. Turns out the excess grease was just trapping grit and the actual contact points were starved. Anyone else learn a basic assembly habit wrong and only catch it after a comebacker?

Thin coat only, learned that after a stripped hubshell a few years back.
