PSA: A stuck seatpost ate 3 hours of my Saturday and I nearly cut a good frame
Customer brought in a 90s steel commuter with a seatpost that was basically welded in by rust, and I tried everything from ammonia to a slide hammer before my coworker Dave just flipped the frame upside down and poured Coke down the tube, let it sit 20 minutes, and it twisted right out. Three hours of my life gone because I forgot the oldest trick in the shop. Any of you got a stuck-post trick that beats the cola soak?
Fought one of those for an hour last spring on an old Nishiki before my boss walked over and handed me a kettle of hot water. We just kept pouring boiling water on the joint, and the steel tube grew faster than the alloy post and it broke loose. Sounded like a gunshot when it finally let go, scared the whole shop. Now I hit up the kettle first before I even think about ammonia. Coke works but it is slower and makes everything sticky, the heat trick has never let me down.
