Overheard a shop owner say 'just use friction paste' on carbon posts - scared me

I was at a group ride last week and one shop owner was bragging to a customer about using friction paste to fix a slipping carbon seatpost instead of checking the torque. My buddy works at that shop and said they never use a torque wrench there. Just grease and pray. With carbon frames getting cheaper, I bet more shops are cutting corners. Anyone else run into shops that skip torque specs on carbon parts?

Grease and pray, that's honestly how a lot of old school mechanics do it and they rarely have problems. Friction paste on a carbon post is fine as long as you're not cranking it down like a steel bolt.

Funny how the old school methods tend to work across the board though. @walker.robert makes a good point - people overcomplicate everything now when sometimes the simple ways still hold up, like how a little elbow grease and common sense can solve half the problems you face in the garage.
