My spoke tension meter hit 120 kgf and I finally got why wheel builders yell about it
I have been building wheels for 6 years and always went by feel and sound. Last Tuesday I borrowed a friend's Park Tool TM-1 at my shop in Boise and measured a rear wheel I had just finished. The drive side was sitting at 120 kgf and the non drive side was way down at 55, and the rim still looked straight to my eye. I had been riding that same lacing pattern on my own bike for two seasons without a single true. So what number do you all actually aim for on a 32 hole rear, or do you still just pluck the spokes and call it good?
