I overheard a guy at REI telling a new rider to ditch the kickstand

He was going on about how kickstands add weight and look amateur. I mean, maybe for a carbon race bike it makes sense, but this person was buying a $400 hybrid. My shop in Denver sells like 30 hybrids a month with kickstands, and I'd say half our customers only ride to the coffee shop or park. Is it really that big of a deal to save a pound when most people are just looking for convenience? Has anyone else seen this kind of gatekeeping with basic commuter gear?

I suppose next they'll be telling folks to take the baskets off their beach cruisers too, right?
