Back in my shop days, we never needed a computer to tune a derailleur

I started wrenching bikes when adjustments were all about touch and ear (no screens in sight). Today's push for electronic everything makes me worry we're forgetting how to truly understand a machine. Are we trading skill for convenience too much?

So true, and that's exactly what quinn780 means about losing basics.

I used to think convenience was always worth it. But I've seen too many things break down fast when the simple, solid way gets skipped. Now I get what you're both saying.

Trading skill for convenience" comes up a lot in the shop group chat.
