Guy behind me in line at the KC royal said he only cooks on a $40 drum, and I haven't stopped thinking about it
I was waiting for a burnt end sandwich at a place off 47th in Kansas City when the guy next to me starts chatting about his setup. He says he runs two briskets a weekend on a cheap drum smoker he got used for 40 bucks and finishes top 10 at local comps. I have a pellet rig that cost me closer to 900 and my last brisket was dry as a cracker. Now I'm wondering if I've been buying my way around learning fire control this whole time. Any of you started cheap and stayed cheap on purpose?
