Unpopular opinion: the 2-minute rule finally killed my doomscrolling, not willpower
Last Tuesday my sister said she read that habits need a starting cue under 2 minutes, so instead of swearing off my phone I now just say 'not yet' and put it face down for one song, and I have done it 11 days straight, has anyone else tried shrinking the habit instead of quitting it cold?
Eleven days is cool and all but I gotta ask, is doomscrolling really the thing that needed a whole system? People act like putting your phone down for one song is some big life change but that's just... not checking your phone for three minutes. The 2 minute rule stuff always sounds smart until you realize you basically just told yourself to wait a bit, which people did forever before it had a name. Not saying it doesn't work for you, but calling it a fix for doomscrolling when it's really just a pause button feels like a stretch. What happens on day 30 when the newness wears off, you still gonna be timing yourself with songs?
