Two-year bedtime battle: strict schedule vs. flexible wind-down

Maybe it's because I run my own small business, but I see both sides here. The strict crowd will tell you discipline is the only fix, and the flexible crowd will tell you to work with your body, not against it. But I've watched my crew's habits change over the last 4 years, and the ones who stick with anything are the ones who treat it like a work schedule, not a feeling. The ones who say 'I'll do it when I'm ready' are still doing the same thing two Decembers later. So maybe the real question isn't which style works, but whether you're willing to treat your own habit like an employee you don't trust yet. Has anyone else found that the method matters less than the level of personal accountability you're willing to force on yourself?

Is it bad that this makes total sense to me, since I basically parent myself like a grumpy boss who schedules his own coffee breaks? My bedtime routine is basically me yelling at my brain to clock out, so maybe that's why it actually works.
