Just realized tracking my bad habit every single day was the thing keeping me stuck for 5 months
Everyone in this group keeps saying you have to log every slip up on a calendar or app and I finally figured out that advice was making things worse for me. I started a sugar habit swap back in March, gave up candy and soda, and I kept a little notebook where I wrote down every time I messed up. By June I had 74 tally marks and I felt like a total failure, so I quit trying for 3 weeks. Then my wife said something simple, she asked why I was keeping a list of my own losses. So I tore out those pages, kept just one line per week about how I FELT, and swapped the notebook for a jar where I put a quarter in every day I made it. Two months later the jar has $47 in it and I have not touched a soda since July 8th. The check in part still matters but the scorekeeping was pure poison for me. Has anyone else had a tracking method that backfired like this?
