Hit 400 days of no biting, my cuticles never looked better
I never counted before, just checked my app last night and saw 400 days straight without chewing my nails. What got me there was carrying a tiny nail file in my wallet, so when I felt the urge I just smoothed the edge instead. Has anyone else switched from biting to a twitchy habit like clicking pens or fidgeting and seen it stick?
Wait, do you mean you're asking if people replaced biting with a totally different habit like pen clicking? Because the way I read your post, the file thing isn't really a new habit at all, it's just you doing the same motion on the same spot, just without wrecking your nail. That's why it stuck for you, idk, maybe it's just me but swapping one fidget for another usually fades after a few weeks because your hands still want the old thing. What you did is closer to redirecting the urge than replacing it, and that seems to be the part that lasts. The pen clickers I know just end up with pen clicks and chewed nails both. Smoothing the edge actually fixes the thing your teeth were hunting for, the rough bit, so there's nothing left to pick at. That's the difference honestly.
