Got talked out of spray foam by a framer and I'm glad I listened
I was dead set on sealing my shop in Highland with closed cell, but this old framer said my metal roof would sweat through it and pointed at the vent chutes. He was right, the batch I tested on scrap bubbled up after one hot week, so I stuck with batt and rigid instead. Anyone else here regret a foam job that trapped moisture somewhere you can't see?

Why does this same story keep popping up in every part of life, not just roofing? People get sold the fanciest fix first because it costs the most and sounds the most high tech, then the old guy who's seen it fail a hundred times says hold on. Same thing happens with cars, lawn chemicals, kitchen gadgets, you name it. The simple answer is usually boring and that's why nobody wants to hear it. Your framer saved you a ton of grief because he'd already watched that movie. Trapping moisture behind a seal you can't check is one of those mistakes you only find out about years later when the wood is already soft.
