Warning: check the oil filter housing on a 2015-2018 1.8L before you quote the job
Had a 2016 Chevy Cruze come in to my shop in Reno three weeks ago for a small leak at the top of the motor, and I quoted it as a valve cover gasket. Turned out the plastic oil filter housing cap was cracked and seeping down the back of the block, so the leak was nowhere near where I first looked. The plastic on those housings gets brittle after about 80k miles and the cap cracks right at the seam. Anyone else getting fooled by these on the 1.8s, or is it just me?

Checked one of these last month on a 2017 with 95k and the cap looked fine, no cracks at all. Maybe it's a climate thing or how hard people crank the cap down when they change the filter. I've seen guys reef on those things way past snug and that's probably what splits the seam more than age. Not saying it doesn't happen but calling it a guaranteed fail at 80k feels like a stretch. Two cars in one shop doesn't make it a pattern either, could just be bad luck or the same quick lube guy overtorquing both.
