Took me 3 years to figure out I was over-torquing lug nuts on every car

Honestly, I was just going by feel and using a 2-foot breaker bar on everything until a customer came back with a warped rotor on his 2018 Civic after I rotated his tires. The vibration at 60 mph tipped me off, and then my torque wrench confirmed I was cranking them to like 120 ft-lbs instead of 80. How do you guys balance speed with actually getting torque specs right on busy days?

No way, 120 on a Civic? That's insane.

Funny you say that @brianm27, I was on the other side of this argument for years. I always figured people were just bragging or repeating old internet rumors, but I saw a buddy's stock Civic hit an indicated 117 on a long downhill stretch once and honestly it felt solid. Not saying you should do it often, but those little 1.5 liter engines can really surprise you if the conditions line up. I guess my old 90s Corolla had me thinking any economy car would be shaking apart at those speeds. It's wild how modern even a basic sedan like that is.
