That time I swore by a $10 clearance code reader from AutoZone...
I figured it'd just give me generic codes and be useless... but I pulled a P0420 on a buddy's 2004 Tacoma last week and it nailed it. The live data even showed the O2 sensor voltages going wacky. Didn't expect much for the price but it actually helped me track down a bad cat converter in under an hour. Has anyone else had surprisingly good luck with a budget scan tool?

Got a cheap one from Harbor Freight that surprised me too.

Right tool for the job I guess. My luck with cheap tools is usually breaking them on the first use.
