That one week where I lost 3 wheel studs on the same Silverado job
Last Tuesday I had a 2014 Silverado come in for a brake job, nothing special. But when I pulled the rear drum off, two wheel studs snapped off just from the impact gun vibration. Then on Thursday I got a 2018 Silverado with a wobbling rear tire and found one stud completely sheared off and the other three barely hanging on. Three different trucks, same problem in one week. Is anyone else seeing a lot of these GM half-ton trucks with wheel stud failures, or was I just unlucky?

Heard you @skylerm55 but those are pressed in studs not press fit.

80,000 miles on that 2014 and the studs looked like they had been stretched from the factory. I'm starting to wonder if GM got a bad batch of steel for those press-in studs on the half-tons, because I've seen the same thing on a few 2016s and 2017s too. Could be the lug nuts are just a hair too aggressive on the taper, putting all the clamp load right on the weakest point instead of spreading it out. Either way it's a design thing, not just bad luck on your end.
