Serious question, why do so many people still use the wrong torque spec for aluminum wheels? I just had a customer come in with three cracked lugs after a tire shop did their rotation.

Ever wonder if it's the cheap aftermarket lugs? The ones that come with some wheels are junk metal. They look fine but can't handle the stress. Saw a set shear off just sitting in a parking lot. Shop torqued them right but the lug itself was the weak point. Maybe the problem starts before the impact gun even comes out.

Seen it a dozen times. They just crank the impact gun to the old steel wheel spec and call it good. Aluminum needs less torque, period. A lot of shops don't even have a torque stick for alloy wheels. Tell your customer to buy a cheap torque wrench and check it themselves next time. It's the only way to be sure.
