Serious question, why do shops insist on impact guns for oil drain plugs?
I spent last Tuesday fighting a seized drain plug on a 2017 F-150 because the previous shop had hammered it on with an impact wrench and crushed the washer flat. Took me 45 minutes with a breaker bar and a torch to get it off without stripping the pan. Am I the only one who thinks hand tools are the way to go for things like this?

Oh man, this drives me crazy too... it's like people just grab the most powerful tool without thinking about what they're actually doing to the parts. I've noticed this pattern everywhere lately, not just with cars but with all kinds of stuff in life where everyone wants to use the nuclear option instead of the right tool for the job. We're all in such a rush to get things done fast that we forget taking our time and doing it right actually saves more time in the long run... Fixing one stripped bolt or rounded nut always takes way longer than just being careful from the start.
